Nationality is the country your ancestors are from and ethnicity is the type of race. In your example above, Fabiola is Italian (because her parents nationality is from Italy). Likewise, your cousin is English. Ethnicity includes Caucasion (White); African-American (Euro, etc.); Indian (American or Eastern); Asian; etc.

Nationality - is the country you are a citizen of, that you have a passport of. hence can have multiple (usually only dual) Nationality, as you inherit nationality from your parents, and also you may gain additional nationality if qualify and promise to support another country (usually because you emmigrated there, and spent a considerable time working and living there). Ethnicity, is where you families history is from - your race. though in some cases, that is getting getting quite mixed these days. So one could be Ethnically chinese (because you have chinese family and characteristics) but have been born in the US (so have US nationality), grown up in the UK with parents who had gained UK nationality... so therefore that person would be also a UK national. Ethnically - chinese, Nationality : US and UK (passports) In the examples you quote: Fabiola Gatti woud (most probably) be ethnically Italian and also originally an italian National (due to the parents) Additionally Urguay may give nationality. Your cousin, Ethically is english (her family and heritage is english) But would start off being an UK national, but due to living and growning up in australia, the Australian government would have also given her Australian Nationality. One concept is the family/race One concept is purely the alegiance that you hold - which country supports you, and you support back. - hence the passport(s) you hold.
