It takes a while. Best start the application as soon as possible.

You don't state what nationality5 you or your family are and whether you or your family have settled status in the UK and Finland, or if not settled, what type of entry clearance for the UK you currently hold. If you are Finnish, then there are no forms to fill in as Finland is part of the EU and all EU citizens can move to any other EU country and live and work there. If you are a non EU national, you can apply for certain family members to come to the UK and live with you. These are your spouse and your children only. If you are settled in the UK i.e. have ILR then you can also apply for elderly parents or grandparents to join you. You must be able to prove that you can accommodate and financially support any dependents without recourse to public founds. In the case of elderly parents or grandparents, you will be asked to certify that you will be held responsible for any public funds claimed by them. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/partnersandfamilies/ How you do it and how long it takes will depend on what type of visa you have and how straightforward their application is.
