That depends where you're going to be living... If Helsinki area then the cost is considerably higher than, say, Tampere or Oulu. Renting is quite expensive, so are the utilities and food. I would say that for a comfy living you would need about 1500-2000e (you do the math for dollars...). There's much to see as Tallin and Stockholm are a stone's throw away, but the ways of getting there are quite cheap (thank god for small favours...).

Helsinki is a very expensive city. but other cities are much more nicer. rent is about 200 - 400 euro/month - 240 - 480$, food is not very expensive, Internet is about 40 euro - 48$ and so on. clothes on sale are not expensive. at euro market and citimarket you can find clothes on sale like -jeans - 17 - 20 euro - 20,4$ - 24 $, sweaters 10 - 20 euros - 12$ - 24 $ and so on. you can live quite good if you have at least 1500 euro/ month - 1800 $. but it's better if you could find someone to share the expences. i'll give you more prices : electricity -about 40 euro/ month -48$ if you have a tv, pc,and few home apliances but no washing machine, phone bill is about 30 - 40 euro - if you use it for calls in finland. calls abroad are very expensive. anyway, there is so much more to tell.
