Pension houses or hostels? If u wanna rent an apartment,u wud need to put up front deposit ( which isnt cheap ) maybe bout 2months up front. But perhaps u can check for some room to rent, thats close to an university, usually students rent out rooms to cover their expenses.U cud ask ur frenz to help u locate or get some ideas? But since ure headin there,u can perhaps stay wid ur friend for a week or so,for u to settle down a but then look for a place.Good Luck! :) **fellow scandivanian :)

The youth hostels are relatively cheap: http://www.srmnet.org/ There's even one on the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki! There's also a camping site, that has some cottages to rent. http://www.hel2.fi/liv/rastila/rastilaenglish.html
